The difference between true automatic knives and spring assisted knives is that you have to open this knife by either using the thumb stud found on the blade or by using the Index-Open system. When the knife is closed, an inner torsion bar helps it stay closed, preventing it from opening simply by gravity. However, once either the thumb stud or the Index-Open flipper is used and the blade comes out of the handle, the torsion bar pushes the blade the rest of the way to the open position. It opens lightning fast just like a real push button switchblade knife, however it is 100% legal!
